Rug Pad Buying Guide
By now, you all know you need a rug pad under your area rugs. This buying guide helps you choose the right rug pad size and the right type of rug pad for rugs and floors. Since we offer a few types of rug pads, we hope this guide helps you choose the right one.
What Size Rug Pad Do You Need?
The rug pad you initially choose should be as close to the same size as your rug as possible and then should be cut just less. If your rug is 9′ x 12′, then you choose the 9′ x 12′ rug pad from our selection. Once we know your rug is 9′ x 12′, we will custom cut the rug pad 1.5″ less on all sides. Thinner rug pads, such as our Super Hold, are cut closer to 1″ less than the rug on all sides, whereas thicker rug pads are cut back closer to 1.5″ smaller on all sides.
Non-Slip or Felt Rug Pad?
Each one of our rug pads is right for hard floor surfaces. Since we do not use any chemicals or adhesives to manufacture our pads, they will not mark, stain or stick to hardwood, laminate, tile or any hard floor.
When To Choose Non Slip Rug Pad
Small and light rugs tend to slip around on the floor and a non slip rug pad is necessary under these rugs. There may be situations under some large or heavy rugs where a non slip rug pad is necessary as well – the rug can be heavily walked on and the corner can move, as an example. For cases as this, a non slip rug pad is helpful to keep all parts of the rug from slipping. There are flat weave rugs, such as Needlepoint, Kilim and Aubusson rugs that are so thin and light, that they need a non slip rug pad regardless of their size.
Which Non Slip Rug Pad?
Ultra Premium: Felt and natural rubber combine to form a .30″ thick non slip rug pad. Use Ultra Premium when comfort and protection are top priority. Unlike our Super Hold, Ultra Premium is completely solid and extremely dense to prevent any pressure penetration through to the floor. This prevents unnecessary wear and damage to rug and floor.
Super Hold: Natural rubber in an open weave construction forms a .13″ thick non slip rug pad. Choose Super Hold when thickness is an issue, such as under doors with low clearance. Super Hold is also used when you would like to maintain a flatter look on the floor since it only adds .13″ to the rug.
When to Choose Felt Rug Pad
Felt is a very popular type of rug pad and we offer it as all felt, as well as a felt and rubber combination. Felt should be used under large rugs, heavy rugs, or under rugs anchored by furniture – these rugs normally do not have a slipping issue. Since we offer felt and felt and rubber, you can actually choose a non slip or one that does not prevent slipping.
Which Felt Rug Pad?
Ultra Premium: Felt and natural rubber together form a .30″ thick rug pad that prevents slipping, adds comfort and protects rug and floor against wear and damage. Choose Ultra Premium form highest level of protection, maximum non slip function and moderate comfort.
Superior: 100% recycled felt compressed to a .38″ thickness that prevents damage to rug and floor and adds excellent comfort. Choose Superior for highest level of protection, above average comfort, noise reduction and insulation. It does not prevent slipping.
Rugs On Carpet
Rugs on carpet tend to buckle, creep and wrinkle. While Ultra Premium can be reversed with rubber side up to hold rugs on carpet, the best choice is our No-Muv. No-Muv works especially well under rugs that have furniture on them. The weight of the furniture tends to cause buckling of the rug and No-Muv is designed to resist this weight and keep your rug as flat as possible on carpet.
