Choosing the Right Area Rug Pad

All area rugs should have a rug pad under them. We offer four types of rug pads and although each protects the rug, there are some differences you should consider.

Rugs Over Hard Floor Surfaces - Non-Slip Rug Pad or Not?
Each one of our rug pads is right for hard floor surfaces. You only need a non-slip rug pad if your rug slips. Smaller rugs, runner rugs or lighter rugs may slip. Room size rugs, heavier rugs or rugs with furniture on them normally do not slip.

For rugs that tend to slip, use our Ultra Premium rug pad (the best non slip rug pad available) or Super Hold rug pad. Ultra Premium is a dense 1/4 of an inch thick rug pad that prevents slipping, adds cushion and protects rug and floor from stress and does NOT mark the floor. Super Hold is a natural rubber rug pad that prevents slipping without damaging the floor, yet since it is not solid, it does not protect rug and floor as well as Ultra Premium. Super Hold is mainly used where clearance is an issue, like in areas where a door is so close to the floor where anything thicker will rub.

For larger rugs (7'x10' and bigger), rugs that are quite heavy or rugs with furniture, you may use a non-slip rug pad, yet it is not necessary. Superior is an excellent felt rug pad when slipping is not an issue. It is a dense 3/8 of an inch thickness that protects rug and floor from stress and adds comfort.

Rugs On Carpet
Rugs on carpet tend to buckle, creep and wrinkle. While Ultra Premium can be reversed with rubber side up to hold rugs on carpet, the best choice is our No-Muv. No-Muv works especially well under rugs that have furniture on them. The weight of the furniture tends to cause buckling of the rug and No-Muv is designed to resist this weight and keep your rug as flat as possible on carpet.

Please refer to the guide below to determine which pad is best.
1 = Best, 2 = Better, 3 = Good, NA = Not Applicable
