Oriental and Persian rugs are hand knotted and need to be protected with the proper pad to prevent premature wear. A dense rug pad prolongs the life of your Oriental and Persian rug by protecting the back of your rug, or the knots, from rubbing against the hard floor and causing premature wear. A soft and spongy rug pad is not recommended for handmade rugs because it does not resist as well as a dense rug pad.
