What Size Should Your Rug Pad Be?

Rug pads should always be about one inch less than the actual rug size on all sides. If your rug measures 7'10"x9'10", then your rug pad should measure 7'8"x9'8". This is one inch less on each side, or two inches in each total dimension.

The reason for the pad being a little shorter than the rug is that it is important for the edge of the rug to taper down to the floor. With the one inch allowance, the edge of your rug will relax to the floor and will not cause a trip hazard nor will the rug pad show.

When you place an order for one of the sizes listed on our site, we are assuming your rug is that size so the pad will be cut a little shorter. We offer a box for you to type in your rug size so that in the event the rug is not an exact size as listed on our site, we are able to cut the pad based on your rug size.

How to measure your rug for your rug pad
When you measure your rug, simply measure the full width from edge to edge and the full length. If your rug has fringe (tassels) at the ends, do not measure them. The measurement we need is the actual rug itself.
